[ DEFINITION ]
What a digital product means here.
A digital product is standalone software people choose to use — built around a problem they have, rather than around a business's internal process. For us, building one means defining that problem clearly, designing the experience, engineering a first version real users can use and refining it from what they do. At ELIXIR it covers four capabilities: product strategy & definition, UX/UI product design, product engineering, and iteration & refinement.
Product or custom software?
Custom software is built around how a business works — its processes, systems and teams. A digital product is built around a problem its users have, and stands on its own. When the work is mainly a larger business system, it belongs to Custom Software Development.
Product or SaaS?
A digital product can be a tool, an experience or a utility used on its own terms. When it becomes a recurring software service — accounts, subscriptions and billing across many customers — it is SaaS Development, its own ELIXIR service.
[ IN SHORT ]
- Problem first — every product starts from a clear user problem, not a feature list.
- Designed before it's built — flows and interfaces are prototyped and tried before engineering begins.
- A first version people can use — tightly scoped, and engineered to be production-ready.
- Built to evolve — refined from what users actually do, release by release.
- Separate, connected services — SaaS, custom software, AI and e-commerce stay their own services, linked when a product needs them.
[ WHERE PRODUCTS GO WRONG ]
Most products don't fail at the build — they fail at the problem they were built for.
Where they go wrong
- A solution looking for a problem — features built before anyone checked what users need.
- Too much, too soon — a first version that tries to do everything at once.
- Designed in the abstract — screens never tried by the people who will use them.
- A prototype that can't grow — a first version that has to be rebuilt to go any further.
- Launch and leave — a product shipped and then never refined.
- The wrong frame — a business system or a subscription service treated as a standalone product.
How we approach it
- Product strategy & definition — the problem, the users and what the first version must do, defined before design.
- A tight scope — a first version focused on the core problem.
- UX/UI product design — flows and interfaces prototyped and tried before engineering begins.
- Product engineering — built on foundations meant to grow, not thrown away.
- Iteration & refinement — the product improved from how people use it, as part of Distill.
- The right frame — business systems point to Custom Software; recurring services point to SaaS.
[ SCOPE ]
Standalone products — defined, designed, engineered and refined.
Digital Products at ELIXIR covers four capabilities: product strategy & definition, UX/UI product design, product engineering, and iteration & refinement — from idea to a first version real users can use, built to evolve.
- 01
Product strategy & definition
The problem, the people who have it and what the product must do first, set out before anything is designed.
- 02
UX/UI product design
Flows and interfaces designed around real tasks, so the product is clear to the people it serves.
- 03
Product engineering
A first version engineered to be production-ready, on foundations that can grow.
- 04
Iteration & refinement
Releases shaped by how the product is actually used.
- 05
Prototyping
Interactive prototypes that let flows be tried before they are built.
- 06
Design systems
The components and rules that keep a product consistent as it grows.
[ WHAT IT CAN BE ]
Kinds of digital products we build — examples, not client work.
- 01
Customer-facing products
Products people use directly, built around a problem they have.
- 02
Internal digital tools
Focused tools a team uses, built as standalone products rather than part of a larger system.
- 03
Web-based product experiences
Product experiences delivered in the browser, on phones, tablets and desktops.
- 04
Product platforms
A product others build on or contribute to, starting from a focused core.
- 05
Interactive utilities
Calculators, configurators or planners that help people do one thing well.
- 06
First versions
A new product idea, scoped to a first version real users can test.
[ FOUR CAPABILITIES ]
Four capabilities behind every product.
Product strategy decides what to build and for whom. Product design shapes how it works, product engineering makes it real, and iteration keeps it improving once people use it.
The problem, clearly defined.
- Users and their problem named
- What the first version must do
- What success would look like
Experiences designed before they're built.
- Flows mapped around real tasks
- Interactive prototypes
- Tried before engineering begins
A product people can actually use.
- Built on typed, modern foundations
- Production-ready from the first version
- Structured to grow
Better with every release.
- Learning from how it's used
- Priorities revisited
- Improved in focused releases
[ IN EVERY PRODUCT ]
What every product includes.
Problem definition
The users, their problem and what the first version must do, written down first.
User flows
How people move through the product to get what they came for.
Prototype
An interactive prototype, tried before engineering begins.
Design system
The components and rules the product is built from, so it stays consistent.
Production-ready build
A first version engineered to be used, not thrown away.
Refinement
Improvements from how the product is used, as part of the ELIXIR Method.
[ RANGE ]
What product work looks like from the outside.
A problem definition, a prototype flow, a product interface and an iteration board each show a different side of building a digital product. These layouts illustrate the kinds of artifacts the work involves — they are archetypes, not client work.

[ STACK ]
What products are designed and built with.
We choose tools for the product, not out of habit. These are the ones we design, prototype and build products with most often.
- Interactive prototypes
- Design systems
- React
- Next.js
- TypeScript
- Node.js
- Usability testing
[ WHY ELIXIR ]
Products from a studio that designs and engineers them.
Digital Products is one of ten ELIXIR services. Next to it sit SaaS Development, Custom Software Development and Web Development — separate services, each with its own scope — so a product can grow into them when it needs to, without blurring what each one does.
Design and engineering together
Products designed and built by the same studio, so decisions carry through.
Clear boundaries
Products, SaaS, custom software and AI are each scoped as their own service.
One method
The ELIXIR Method guides every product, from the first problem to refinement.
Multilingual by design
Our own site runs in five languages, right-to-left included.
[ THE METHOD ]
The ELIXIR Method, applied to digital products.
Every product moves through the same five phases — the method behind all of our work.
Explore the ELIXIR Method- 01
DISCERN
We look at the problem the product should solve — who has it, how they deal with it today and what gets in their way.
- 02
DEFINE
We define the product: its users, the core problem, what the first version must do and what success would look like.
- 03
DESIGN
We design the experience: flows, interfaces and a prototype tried before anything is built.
- 04
DEVELOP
We engineer a first version real people can use, on foundations built to grow.
- 05
DISTILL
We learn from how the product is used, refine what doesn't serve and plan the next release.
[ WHERE WE WORK ]
US roots. Working internationally.
ELIXIR Creative is a digital innovation and technology studio operating internationally. Our work began with clients in the USA and Canada; today we are expanding into Morocco, the UAE, Germany and other international markets — and this site is itself built in five languages, right-to-left included.
[ ENGAGEMENT ]
Scoped to the product, not to a package.
Every project starts with the audit: we look at the problem your product should solve and come back with a scoped plan. Most product work takes one of three shapes.
- 01
A first version
A new product defined, designed and built to its first usable release.
- 02
An existing product
A product redesigned or extended around the problems its users have.
- 03
Ongoing iteration
Continued refinement and releases as the product and its users grow.
Digital products at ELIXIR
ELIXIR Creative is a digital innovation and technology studio. Our Digital Products service covers standalone digital products designed and built around a clear user problem, through four capabilities: product strategy & definition, UX/UI product design, product engineering, and iteration & refinement.
A product starts from a problem, not a feature list. Defining it clearly keeps the first version focused, and building it on solid foundations means it can keep improving rather than being rebuilt.
Where Digital Products meets ELIXIR's other services
When a product becomes a recurring software service with accounts and subscriptions, it continues as SaaS Development; when the work is mainly a larger system built around how a business runs, it belongs to Custom Software Development; when the product is an online store, it is E-commerce Development.
When a product needs an AI capability built in, that is AI Development — or AI Agent Development when it needs agents that take action across tools; fixed, repetitive workflows belong to Automation, and business-wide change to Digital Transformation.
[ FAQ ]
What people ask before building a digital product.
01What does Digital Products cover?
Standalone digital products designed and built around a clear user problem — from idea to a first version real users can use, built to evolve. At ELIXIR it covers product strategy & definition, UX/UI product design, product engineering, and iteration & refinement.
02What is the difference between a digital product and custom software?
Custom software is built around how a business works — its processes, systems and teams. A digital product is built around a problem its users have and stands on its own. Larger business systems are handled as Custom Software Development.
03How is Digital Products different from SaaS Development?
SaaS Development covers recurring software services: multi-tenancy, subscriptions and billing, cloud infrastructure and product analytics. A digital product can grow into one; when it does, that work continues as SaaS Development.
04Do you help define the product, or only build it?
Both. Product strategy & definition is one of the four capabilities: the problem, the users and what the first version must do are defined before design and engineering begin.
05Is a first version a throwaway prototype?
No. Prototypes are used to try flows before engineering; the first version itself is tightly scoped but engineered to be production-ready, so it can grow rather than be rebuilt.
06Do you build native mobile apps?
Our digital products are web-based, designed to work well on phones, tablets and desktops. Native app development is not one of our services.
07Can a product include AI?
Yes, as its own service: AI features are built through AI Development, or AI Agent Development when the product needs agents that act across tools — linked to the product project, not merged into it.
08What happens after launch?
Iteration & refinement is one of the four capabilities: how the product is used guides what is improved next, released in focused steps.
09How much does a digital product cost, and how long does it take?
It depends on scope: the problem, the first version's features and how the product will grow. We don't sell fixed packages — the audit comes first, and it leads to a scoped plan with cost and timeline.
